About the organisation
The Caledonian Society Bonn was founded around 1946 by the British Armed Forces and later run by employees of the British Embassy. Today, the Caledonian Society Bonn is under the patronage of H.M. Consul-General Susan Speller, Düsseldorf. The society promotes Scottish traditions and international relations and is open to everyone sharing these interests.
The Caledonian Society Bonn is a membership-based, non-profit association dedicated to:
- sustaining and fostering Scottish heritage and traditions,
- promoting an appreciation of Scottish culture, specifically country dancing, music, food, and literature,
- opening its membership to all comers in the Bonn/Cologne region and beyond, and
- supporting children's charities in the U.K. and Germany
The society organises a number of social events such as ceilidhs, Burns Night and St. Andrew’s Night celebrations.
Since its foundation, the Caledonian Society Bonn has supported various children's charities in Scotland and Germany by donating more than 100,000 EUR.
From September to June the society holds regular weekly Scottish country dancing practice sessions where members and non-members can enjoy good company.
So if you like dancing or want to make new friends or would like to know more about Scotland, then come along and join in the fun!
